"The CSSC is an anomaly among screenplay competitions — they actually produce tangible results. You’re not just going to have a pretty credit for your resume, they’re actually going to give you something tangible."
Suri Parmar
Award-winning Writer & Director
Golden Cinema Award Recipient 2010
“The CSSC stood out because they weren’t just offering a cash prize; they were committed to getting scripts produced— That’s rare, and it was a huge motivator.”
Neil Graham
Award-winning Writer
Best in Fest Grand Prize Recipient 2010
"I can draw a straight line from Elijah the Prophet (being produced), to being in Romania on a $30 million mini-series that I wrote for History Channel. There’s no question that that doesn’t happen without the CSSC."
Zachary Herrmann
Award-winning Filmmaker
Best in Fest Grand Prize
Co-Recipient 2011

THANK YOU TO OUR PARTNERS

SHORT. IS. BETTER.

The Canadian Short Screenplay Competition works and creates on the traditional territory of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples, which is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. Toronto, where CSSC is based, is covered by Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit.

We recognize our connection to the land and the ongoing contributions of Indigenous communities to storytelling, oral traditions and artistic expression. We acknowledge that the Yorkton Film Festival — host of our annual awards ceremony — takes place on Treaty 4 Territory and the traditional lands of the Cree, Saulteaux, Dakota, Nakota and Lakota peoples, as well as the homeland of the Métis Nation.

We honour Indigenous screenwriters, filmmakers and creators who continue to shape the past, present and future of Canadian storytelling.
